I have been campaigning daily in Windsor Tecumseh Lakeshore and what people are asking me at the door is WHY Housing is so expensive and if there is any hope in the future for their children.  Did you hear about Trudeau’s idea?  He plans to use Federal Land to build housing but you will not own it, you will lease it from the Government.  I am very familiar with this concept as I am from England and they had housing owned by the Government called Council Houses.    They were built after the war right up until the 70’s when Margaret Thatcher (Conservative) made the decision that inviduals who lived in the homes could purchase them.  The right to buy was part of their campaign.  It was important that people owned their own homes.  If Trudeau uses all Federal Land to build affordable housing and it is leased what do you think the domino effect of  this will be.   Home owners renovate their homes, renters do not.  Millions of dollars every year are spent at the big box stores with material to renovate their kitchens, bathrooms, additions, new windows, roofs, etc.  When it is leased, it will be up to the Government to maintain these homes.  Who will they choose to do maintenance on these homes.  How often?  And what will the cost be for the tax payer?  What about ALL those small business owners, roofers, plumbers, renovation companies?
